This brought us to a very special project this past winter: a branding session with someone dear, Tori of Berry Blooms Floral Co., for one of her most stylized weddings of the year. Tori reached out to collaborate again, eager for hands-on help as she crafted something truly unique a minimalist bouquet with sculptural runs of magenta, lush greens, ferns, hydrangea, and, in an inspired touch, even kale. The vision was bold, full of intention, and stunning.

Truthfully, any opportunity to see Tori my work wife and dear friend again is one I’d never refuse. I was also dying to work at Scripps Seaside Forum, right on the beach. So I traveled to San Diego, camera in hand, ready to document her artistry and rediscover the creative rhythms we share.

Documenting her process meant following her through the intimate chaos of her studio, which sits in her garage a space alive with organized, creative mess. I love photographing in that studio. Tori moved through it all with an artist’s focus, threading hyacinth into delicate chains, foraging roadside grasses as our hands brushed wild textures, selecting each bloom with intention and creativity that never ceases to surprise me.

It always amazes me how florists like Tori can stretch a handful of elements into something breathtaking and monumental, while others might need armfuls of blooms to achieve the same. There’s an artistry there of making something minimal feel grand, of coaxing so much beauty out of so little that is both rare and inherent, something learned only by heart and talent. All done before even getting to the wedding venue at Scripps Seaside Forum.

We first crossed paths with Tori, the visionary behind Berry Blooms Floral Co., during an intimate styled shoot turned vow renewal in San Diego. The connection was instantaneous. She is a bright, beautiful soul a proud Queer and POC business owner who pours an immense amount of intention into her craft. We became fast friends, the kind where you simply know it is a lifelong bond. When we realized our schedules would align for a Valentine’s Day wedding at Scripps Seaside Forum her stylized, creative highlight of the season we knew we had to document her creative process again.

Tori’s journey into floristry is a beautiful story of rediscovery. She spent years working as an associate scientist, but a trip to Los Angeles in 2020 reignited a childhood love for the garden. Tasked with creating a DIY floral arch for her cousin’s intimate backyard wedding, Tori headed to the flower market. With no formal training, she built an arrangement so breathtaking that it awakened a deep, undeniable passion. By June 2022, Berry Blooms Floral Co. was officially born. Today, she creates vibrant, sustainable, and intentionally curated designs that reflect the unique personalities of the couples she serves.

To truly understand the depth of her work, we decided to follow her the day before and the day of a bustling Valentine’s Day wedding the wedding at Scripps Seaside Forum out in La Jolla, paired with a traditional church ceremony. We wanted to show what her day-to-day actually looks like. Our film cameras documented the early morning light hitting buckets of fresh stems, the quiet concentration on her face as she trimmed away leaves, and the physical devotion required to build massive, organic floral shapes even with a small amount of product.

We witnessed the moments of improvisation hand-threading hyacinth flowers into airy garlands, stopping roadside to forage for wild grasses, Tori’s hands stained and steady with creation. It was a beautiful reminder that a wedding is crafted by passionate human hands.
