Block Island, Rhode Island

Block Island, one of our favorite locations in Rhode Island for intimate elopements with breathtaking views, unique accommodations, and local charm wrapped into one. That’s not to say Block Island doesn’t come with some challenges, but it’s so worth it when you’re celebrating under the stars on your wedding night and enjoying those private moments with your significant other. Keep on reading to find out our top 5 reasons we love Block Island, plus some tips to help you plan out your wedding or elopement on this special island!

A Quick Note!

Block Island is a super residential area and is a tourist hot spot, especially in the Summer! So this isn’t a great location to spontaneously elope at. You do need to plan ahead and book lodging months in advance and decide on your elopement location to get all the paperwork squared away if you need it (permits, marriage license, etc.)! Block Island has many charming Inns & Airbnb’s on the island, I’ll share some of our favorites in a bit! Also, make sure to check ferry times for your specific dates and pay for your tickets ahead of time to avoid any last-minute hassle. Get all your information about the ferry here!

UNIQUE & FUN ACCOMMODATIONS

One of the most exciting aspects of eloping on Block Island is the amazing range of accommodation options available. Whether you love the charm of a cozy bed and breakfast, the character of a historic inn, or the privacy of an Airbnb, the island has something for you. If you and your S.O. are in search of a little inn, check out the 1611 Inn or the Blue Dory Inn, they both have such a charm to them with great views. If you and your partner are more of an all-inclusive BNB type, try the Sea Breeze or the Avonlea, Jewel Of The Sea! There is something so much more intimate and fun about staying at a quaint inn or Bed & Breakfast than a big hotel for your intimate elopements and the options are perfection here!

Privacy and Intimacy

One reason we love photographing elopements is the intimate ceremonies and capturing those intimate moments between our couples throughout the day. Just like these two who chose to get ready together before the ceremony, these ended up being some of the most romantic photos of the day! That’s why Block Island is the perfect spot for those couples who are looking for a private and intimate elopement or micro wedding. It is the perfect little escape to run away and say your I do’s without the worries of traditional wedding day stress. Yes, this place is a tourist attraction, but once you find your secluded location on the island, you will forget anyone else is with you and really be able to soak in the moment.

The Endless Scenery

Block Island is an island but has so many incredible views and options when it comes to eloping destinations. Whether you are a couple looking for an adventurous elopement or something more relaxing and chill, Block Island has something for you. From beaches to hiking trails, cliffs, and unique hotels or BNBs, whatever type of elopement you envision, this island will provide the perfect backdrop. For this specific elopement, we shot at the historic Southeast Light House, which has an insane view and so many options for photos. Some other locations we love are Mohegan Bluffs for beautiful cliffs, Clayhead Trail and The Maze for our nature-loving couples, and The Spring House Hotel for a classic old-money vibe wedding or elopement!

FLEXIBILITY TO CREATE YOUR DREAM DAY

We know couples choose to elope because they want to ditch the traditional wedding and have the flexibility to create a day that really fits them. Block Island offers endless options for flexibility. Want to just head over for the night? No problem, the ferry back is just a short hour’s ride. Feeling like making a honeymoon out of it, Block Island would be a relaxing week long trip. We also love all the options for accommodation and elopement locations, and there are lots of wedding vendors that travel or are on Block Island. Making the planning process smooth for every couple with so many options that fit your needs and unique vision!

Outdoor Adventures

For all my adventurous couples, Block Island offers tons of outdoor activities for you and your partner to enjoy during your stay. Go on a romantic hike, cycle along scenic trails, or paddle through the crystal-clear waters. We have seen couples elope in the early morning and spend the rest of the day adventuring or if you stay for a long weekend you won’t get bored with all the options the island has! So, if you are an avid outdoorsy couple, Block Island may be the ultimate location for you. Or, even if you just want a cozy weekend, this historic town has all the views and long walking trails you may be looking for! You can head here to see all the options for things to do in Block Island!
